Studio Underd0g and Wristcheck drop three uneggspected 01Series Chronographs that’ll make you crack a smile

At our final pizza party for the Studio Underd0g x Time+Tide Hand Delivered, Studio Underd0g founder Richard Benc said that he was “done with food watches” – a bold claim for a man whose brand rose to prominence off the back of Watermel0n, M1nt Ch0c Ch1p and Salm0n dials. But it turns it he couldn’t help coming back for seconds, teaming up with Hong Kong’s Wristcheck on three playful chronographs that promise to “transform the ordinary into the egg-straordinary”. Fair warning, there will be a lot of food puns in this article.
The thought process behind the Studio Underd0g x Wristcheck Uneggspected Series was over easy, Rich explains. “Let’s be honest, how many people are really tracking their lap times with their chronograph these days? It’s time to celebrate a new era for the chronograph complication, one that will lead to perfectly cooked eggs, every time,” he jokes. (Or should that be yolks?) He’s being tongue-in-cheek here of course, but there’s actually some truth to that: personally, my chronographs and dive watches mostly get used to time my experiments in the kitchen rather than aquatic or automotive adventures.
Anyway, enough entree, on to the main course. The Studio Underd0g x Wristcheck Uneggspected Series consists of three takes on the freshly served third generation of the British microbrand’s seminal 01Series Chronograph. There’s the B0iled Egg, which offers a light yellow dial with eggshell highlights and a white minute/tachymeter track; the Fried Egg, which has been cooked sunny side up with a crispy golden dial complemented by googy yellow highlights; and the surprisingly appetising R0tten Egg, which has a green dial with speckles on its minute track and chronograph subdial. Normally you wouldn’t be too keen to get a rotten egg, but this is one that you’ll want an extra serving of.
All three flavours have egg-shaped indices and come with both a Saffiano leather strap as well as a steel Milanese bracelet. They also benefit from all the improvements this third-gen take on the 01Series recipe offers, such as a slimmer 12.9mm case height, larger crown, and a Seagull ST-1901B movement with a black baseplate and swan neck regulator, which allows for finer adjustment and therefore a tighter stated accuracy of -10/+15 seconds per day. All the better to time your eggs with.
To celebrate this collaboration, Wristcheck is also set to unveil a series of “dynamic experiences” that “capture the playful spirit of the three models, promising a “unique unboxing experience when the watch reaches its new owner”. As of publishing, we’re not quite sure what that will entail. Perhaps buyers will receive a visit from an old-fashioned egg deliveryman? We’re hungry to see what Rich and Wristcheck’s Austen Chu are cooking up…

All three are limited editions of varying availability: 200 pieces for the B0iled Egg and Fried Egg, and 90 pieces for the R0tten Egg.
